Mediocre logo

Mediocre AB's official logo after Smash Hit, seen using the Smash Hit font for the word "Mediocre".

Mediocre AB is the Swedish Indie studio that created Smash Hit and many other games. It was formed in 2010 by Dennis Gustafsson and Henrik Johansson.

History[]

Sprinkle Series (wiki)[]

Mediocre AB started by creating the Sprinkle series of games, the first being released in 2011 and other games in 2013. They have now undergone many upgrades.

Granny Smith (wiki)[]

They then went on to create Granny Smith, released in 2013.

Though two years before Smash Hit, the trailer for Granny Smith showed her (Granny Smith herself) throwing baseballs at glass. She also broke everything that was breakable (wood, glass, stone (in the form of bricks), etc).

Smash Hit[]

See the Main Article for further information.

Does Not Commute (wiki)[]

Does Not Commute was Mediocre's fifth game, released in 2015. This was their highest-rated game on Google Play.

Beyondium (wiki not released)[]

Beyondium (formerly named DIRAC, but changed due to legal complications) is Mediocre AB's sixth game and fifth series released in 2016. It is regarded as the worst game by Mediocre AB.

PinOut! (wiki)[]

PinOut! was released in 2016 as Mediocre AB's final game. The game was much more well received than that of the previous Beyondium.

After PinOut![]

After 2017, Mediocre AB went dormant. On Dennis Gustafsson's personal site, tuxedolabs.com, they said that "While [we are] still maintaining all games, we are not likely to release anything new."

Dennis Gustafsson and Emil Bengsston at Mediocre AB (which is all except for Henrik Johansson) went on the create a new development studio named Tuxedo Labs, which is developing the video game Teardown. Henrik Johansson continued to create Overlook Trail at Longhand Electric AB. Douglas Holmquist would continue making music for them whilst making their next game named "Teardown".

Purchase of Mediocre AB[]

On December 2023, Dennis Gustafsson had announced on the Teardown Discord server that Mediocre had been acquired to a different company under the name of Coffee Stain Studios. This meant Embracer Group now owns Teardown and all Mediocre's games made, via Saber Interactive.

This was also why because on 28 November 2023, the logos of Smash Hit, Does Not Commute, and PinOut were changed without an exact reason.

People[]

There are 3 employees at Mediocre. In an interview, one said that their minimal-employee corporate style helped allow Smash Hit and Does Not Commute (those with the premium-style upgrades) succeed.

Others[]

There are some others who have been indirectly involved with Mediocre.

Logo Variations[]

Trivia[]

  • Mediocre AB's official logo has always been in the Smash Hit font since the release of that game in 2014. It has slight variations in different games, such as PinOut's logo: it takes on a neon-style form with slightly distorted letters.
  • Mediocre's logo has also varied in versions 0.8.0 and 0.9.0 of Smash Hit compared to 1.0.0 and later.
  • PinOut and Smash Hit share the Mediocre rank, which is named after Mediocre AB, their indie studio.
  • Dennis' name is misspelled on the mediocre.se website. The website says Gustavsson, though his last name is Gustafsson. (This error is corrected in the Credits minigame.)
